The very same publication "The Herald of Gospel Liberty"
that got it right on Cardinal Gibbon's opposition to public schools in the U.S.,
sadly bought Rome's impending Pharmacratic Inquisition, opposing even Coffee and Tea
with its disregard of the Bible's suggestions to use the herbs of the earth as meat.

It might be interesting to inquire, Why Cardinal Gibbons thinks the public school system of the United States is an evil. As I see it, it is because the public schools teach children to think,
independent of the priests of the Roman Catholic church. The plan of
that church is to have the children taught under the immediate
supervision of the church, and as the public school system does not
consult the Roman Catholic Church as to what shall be taught, or as to
who shall do the teaching, the Roman Catholic prelate forthwith
pronounces the public school one of the five great evils of the land. ... The
Catholic invasion of Protestant rights has already gone quite too far
for the best interests of our common country.
Alas,
"The Herald of Gospel Liberty"would adopt the very thinking behind the Vatican's criminal and socially destructive drug war, breaking with the Gospel and the concept of Liberty, including even opposing the use of Coffee and Tea, both which are God given herbs of the earth.

OUR
WASHINGTON LETTER
The Department of State has recently issued an announcement
of the second International Brewers' Congress to be held in Chicago, October 12
to 22d next. Copies of this letter have been sent to the Diplomatic and
Consular Officers of the United States in foreign countries asking their
co-operation. Among other statements in this letter are the following: "It
is the purpose of this Congress to discuss agricultural, scientific, technical
and sociological questions connected with the brewing and allied industries.
The Secretary of Agriculture of the United States, the Hon. James Wilson, has
accepted an invitation to act as honorary president of this Congress, and the
United States Department of Agriculture will he represented at the
International Barley and Hop Exhibition by a suitable exhibit." This is
signed, "Your obedient servant, P. C. Knox." This suggests a question
which may be submitted to the people for discussion. How far should the
machinery of a government be used in advertising and promoting a business which
courts and statesmen have declared is the chief source of poverty, misery
and crime.
SOFT DRINKS
Governor O'Neal of Alabama has recently called attention to
an evil which demands the consideration of all parents and citizens. He says:
"I very strongly urge prohibitive legislation against all so-called 'soft
drinks' which contain cocaine, caffeine. acetanilide,
phenacetin, or other added injurious chemicals or habit-forming drugs. At the
present time many parents who refuse to let their children drink coffee or tea
in the home because of the caffeine they contain, will suffer them to be doped
with caffeine at the soda fountain, without the knowledge that these drinks
contain this injurious substance. In the language of an eminent chemist:
"The country is full of caffeine drunkards [DW note- sic] who are wholly ignorant of the
nature of the disease from which they suffer, or its cause."
COCAINE AMONG NEGROES
From many parts of the South come reports showing the
increasing use of cocaine by the negroes. This is
especially the case with negroes employed in the large lumber camps in that
section where there is local option. It is found that as saloons are closed
many of the negroes turn to the use of cocaine with
results that are most serious. The closing of the saloons is good so far as it
is good, but not sufficient. We must prohibit the sale of habit-forming drugs
such as cocaine; but more than this the temperance people must do something to break up the
monotony of life and give men some new interests. We must conquer by
supplanting. Reform thus far has been largely negative. The time is come when
it must be more directly positive.
A
GENERAL COUNCIL OF WAR
At a recent meeting of the
Northern Baptist Convention in Philadelphia the Social
Service Commission called attention to the fact that the temperance forces are divided to the serious detriment of
the cause. A resolution was adopted by the Convention requesting every
religious body and temperance organization in the
land to select representatives who shall hold a general council and endeavor to
form a working and positive program of action and to mobilize the forces of
righteousness in the campaign against the over-shadowing evil of the saloon.
The situation is critical and demands immediate action. This council of war
must be fully representative. The Social Service Commission was asked by the
convention to take such action as seems wise in securing such representatives
from the various organizations and churches.
PURE FOODS AND DRUGS
In a recent special message to
Congress President Taft called attention to the fact that by a recent decision
of the Supreme Court the Food and Drug Act was seriously impaired. Without fear
of punishment under the law unscrupulous persons knowing the medicines have no
curative or remedial value [DW note-
baseless statement to reject God given herbs for the sake of establishing a monopoly of medicine of an FDA approved schedule of synthetic patentable pharmaceuticles] for the diseases for which they Indicate them, may
ship in interstate commerce medicines consisting of substance [DW note- that are un-patentable and
thus can’t be secured by APhA members as source of profit] possessing
any slight physiological action and labeled as cures for diseases, which in the
present state of science are recognized as incurable. "This," says
the President, "is an evil which menaces the life of the people and
strikes at the life of the nation." He therefore urges Congress to amend
the law in such a way as to prevent the misbranding of foods and medicines. To remedy
this. Senator McCumber introduced a bill (Senate 2849) which was referred to
the Committee on Manufactures. This provides that an article shall be
deemed misbranded in case of drugs, "// it is an imitation of that
offered for sale under the name of another article." "If the contents
of the package fail to bear a statement on the label of the quality or
proportion of any alcohol, morphine, opium, cocaine or
any derivative or preparation of any such substance." "If there is written
or printed on the, package or container thereof any false or fraudulent
misrepresentations concerning its curative qualities, effects, or physiological
action." The druggists of the country who handle the various nostrums,
no doubt urged on by nostrum makers, are flooding the members of the committee
with letters. It is important that the people who believe in pure food and
drugs should communicate at once with Senators from their state urging
immediate action on this important measure. Senate 2849.
Such represents the same sort of satanic perversion of government as seen today with various 'Baptists', including the full delegation of what constitutes acceptable medicine as whatever is approved by the US FDA.

Well, I certainly wouldnt go as far as calling them satanic and breaking with the gospel based on this stance alone.
ReplyDeleteIn those times there was a huge reaction to modernism and the destruction of absolutes in morality that followed. Cheap booze was making a foray as well, with the prohibition movement growing through the decades.
Naturally, man can never preciselly gauge and control the extent of his reactions and the attack on free distribution and use of plants with positive health effects was a sad consequence of the spillover from the temperance/prohibition movement.
There was also the issue of snake oil-ism, hence the labelling frenzy.
I would- at least satanic inspired.
ReplyDeleteThey outright REJECTED the herbs- which are gifts of God- in favor of USDA-FDA approved synthetic chemicals, including via coercion and theft, which is what the drug war directly sanctions.
'Snake-oil' is simply an AMA slur, like Nostrums, etc applicable to the suppression of Cannabis Oil for curing cancer in favor of continuing bilking of the public for relatively toxic pharmaceuticals.
I am disgusted that I have yet to find any so called Protestant Christian publication from that time that did not fall for the Romish stance.
That 'Gospel Liberty' publication was neither.
Modernism would actually be more applicable to the refining of herbs into ultra concentrated drug forms, and of synthetic pharmaceuticals.
ReplyDeleteThis explains why the Baptist, Seventh Day Adventist and etc refuse to touch Coca and Cannabis Oil.
ReplyDeleteAs can be expected from such daughters of Rome.
ReplyDeleteRome uses New Zealand as its test lab, this is no doubt about it, Prohibition kicked off in the world starting with New Zealand in 1927 just one year after Mother Mary Aubert died in 1926, she was one of the earliest catholic nuns who grew Cannabis and made Cannabis Oil for a lot of ailments. People in New Zealand look at me and think that I was joking when I tell the the Catholic Church used New Zealand to kick off prohibition fast forward to this era, every attempt to have Cannabis Oil or even the Vin Mariani Coca wine or Coca itself taken off the Drug Rating Schedule, it has been met with resistance from companies like Big Pharma, Tobacco, Alcohol and even Oil. In New Zealand Cannabis Oil is rated in the Class B substance rating which means manufacturing or trafficking it is not allowed and if caught and on conviction while sentencing, prison and asset forfeiture can happen when conviction happen, now lets get to the Coca Plant and Vin Mariani in New Zealand, its listed in the Class A substance list according to the New Zealand Police, manufacturing, trafficking or even importation is banned and carries severe penalties. Many Church sects or government or universities in New Zealand are refusing to touch Cannabis Oil or even Coca or the Vin Mariani, the suppression of the substances just mentioned in New Zealand is very real
ReplyDeleteAnother thing in regards to Cannabis Oil that the Papacy or Roman Catholic Church wants suppressed so the world does not know, Cannabis Oil which was brought back into the modern era by Rick Simpson has its origins in Ancient China, earliest use can be traced back to the Ming or Han Dynasty, earliest known use on Cannabis Oil was at least against health problems like Diabetes and Gastrointesinal disorders, I believe the Roman Catholic Church played a role in making the Qing Royal Court which did extensively use Cannabis Oil and smoked Cannabis in the 1800s by sneaking the Pharmacratic Inquisition into Qing ruled China in the 1800s by getting the Chinese hooked on opiates and I believe thats how Cannabis became illegal in China. Douglas feel free to comment further on this as it is a suspicion that I am having lately

ReplyDeleteI need to know more of the time-lines of the various substance prohibitions in China.
ReplyDeleteI am suspicious of the Chinese hatred of Opium, as it never seems to have anything to say about alcoholic beverages, nor Tobacco.
On top i believe we need to ask is addiction even real or not?
