About Ritualistic Dumbing Down

Applicable to any religion.

http://burningtaper.blogspot.com/2008/03/freemason-wiccan-to-give-talk-on.html

Back in the early days of Freemasonry, British lodges often met in taverns, or in rooms above taverns. In those days you could enjoy the drink of your choice while discussing esoteric ideas and scientific advancements along with your ritual.

Flash forward a few hundreds years and move Masonry across an ocean, and about all that's left of that tradition is the ritual.

In many American Masonic jurisdictions, the presence of alcohol in a lodge is verboten. Discussion of esoterica and science is woefully lacking. If such discussion occurs at all, you can bet most of the brethren are fast asleep in their chairs.

But hey, we do a good ritual.

I've been reading some of the commentary by "Masons" about religion in the lodge. Freemasonry is not a religion but the oldest fraternity in the world. There are two topics which should never be discussed in a lodge and those are religion and politics, for these bring on more arguments than any thing on earth. Freemasonry does teach tolerance for one anothers beliefs and that includes religion. Since every Lodge is opened with prayer whomever says that prayer should be allowed to pray however his religion dictates. If a Jewish Mason is praying then all should allow him the right to practice his religion his way and pray accordingly. The same goes for Baptist, Methodist, Muslim, Hindu or whatever. The point is that Masons should tolerate and try to understand each others personal beliefs. Masons should be spreading the cement of Brotherly love and affection, that cement which unites us as one common band or society of brothers among whom "no" contention should ever exist, but that noble contention or rather emulation of who can best work and best agree.

What sort of 'tolerance' omits that for coversation and debate?

Masonry as oasis of peace in a ocean of conflicts? For me Masonry stands to various religions, politics, etc, no more or less than the International Bank for Settlement (BIS) stand in front of both fronts of war during WWII, when anti-Nazis and Nazis were joyfully doing business together till three months before end of war.

Also BIS was a 'brotherhood' of peace.

"Ideas", etc. exchanged in those 'brotherhoods' are no more or less than the currencies/foreign bills exchanged in that BIS in the years 1939-1945. A commerce of souls, accumulated by the final holding controlling such "brotherhoods/exchange rooms", the Vatican capitalist church of the souls (Rome – Italy).
