The 26-mile marker at Monday’s Boston Marathon was dedicated to the 26 victims of the December 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and several runners from Newtown participated in the race.
All of those runners finished the race safely, according to the Facebook page of Team Newtown Strong, a Connecticut group whose runners dedicated each mile of the race to a different victim of the Sandy Hook attack.
According to the AP, the 26-mile marker featured the Newtown city seal surrounded by 26 stars. CBS Boston reported that moments of silence lasting 26 seconds were held before each wave of the race. ...
